CNN & MSNBC Want to Know about My American Airlines Horror Story
April 14th, 2008 by Joshua Dorkin | Filed under Blogging, Commentary.Since posting my story about how American Airlines abandoned me, and then treated me like a 5th class citizen last week, I was contacted by both MSNBC and CNN.
I got the email from Christopher Elliot of MSNBC first thing Thursday morning (he sent it to me 4:30am that day – the day of my flight), and he wanted to discuss what I went through. Unfortunately, I got back to him too late for his deadline, but I was told that he’d mention my story and link to the blog post I wrote about it . . . I haven’t seen anything yet! Any updates, Christopher?
I was also contacted by Jen Haley of CNN. Jen was writing an article about travel insurance and decided to get in touch. The article just went live on the CNN site and I thought I’d share it with all of you.
So . . . check out:

Did AA ever refund/rebate you for this?
Wow – I can’t believe American Airlines were so rotten to you! That’s completely unacceptable. Great idea going to the press about it – I would’ve done the same thing.
It really sucks that you had to lose so much money to get things straightened out – I hope you’re refunded properly and that you never have to experience anything like that again.
That was a frustrating experience to happen to you! I can’t believe that they told you after all that, that they reinstated the flight. Could you have switched to the flight and then gotten your money back from the other airline? It shouldn’t have happened in the first place, but I’m glad that the press got a hold of you. Hopefully, this will not happen again to anyone.
Hopefully, you going to the press, will prevent things like this from ever happening again.
I’ve always wondered, do you actually get paid when big news company uses you as their sources like that? cos they using your experiences and sell it to the masses, right?
It was a frustrating incident happened to you! I can’t think that they have told you after all that, that they restored the flight. Could you have switched to the flight and then got the money back from the other airline? It wouldn’t have happened in the first place. Hopefully, this will not happen again to anyone.
Atleast they got back to you, any further news? I would keep hassling untill you atleast get a rebate!
Mate you have done a great job by reporting the matter to the press. Do not worry we all are with you.
American airlines treated him very badly. It gives us lesson to protect our cash if our traveling plan gets cancelled.

Man that sounds awesome so finally you got someone to look into your mishap. And i hope AA learn their lesson for treating you.
Go get em tiger.
Only 68 comments so far?! I assume that everyone has at least 1 horror story to share about those airlines. They put customer service in the back seat and now they are always close to bankrupt. Take a page out of the foreign airline’s policies. They are doing fine.
Good Informative post
Stumbled you cheers!
Will Keep in touch with you
It sure is a bummer when companies don’t care about the customers and only want to pad the bottom line. I hope that this all gets fixed and that you aren’t left with a loss because of the airlines that screwed up. That is just utterly ridiculous.
I love when these companies are exposed for their bad behavior.
The problem with airlines is they don’t care about the passengers. It’s like herding cattle to them.
They’re talking about jacking up prices now, because they are taking out a row of seats, amd making more room, larger seating platforms for more space.., but at the same time they’re talking about not playing movies, or giving out headphones to use (you have to bring your own), and eliminating food and drinks, except for internation trips only.. I can understand how fuel prices are effecting the Airline industry, but come one.
I also wonder if this is somehow related to 9/11, if the airlines are all going bankrupt? I know many still fear flying, because of this.
Sounds awesome. I would be thrilled to be mentioned by either!
Well looks like you are going to be famous soon, I’m sure you haven’t heard the end of it. Maybe Christopher will get back to you, or maybe someone else will contact you from the news people. I think you should keep repeating the story here on your blog so they know how bad American airlines is.
I have had so many disappointing experiences with American I refuse to fly them anymore.
good article and inspiring too, thanks
I had a similar thing happen to me in the UK with a UK based company where I blogged about them. Next thing I know I have the BBC contacting me asking questions then the large company wanted a chat to see if they could remedy it. I know in future if a company ever pisses me off Im heading straight for my blog.
thats good for you,you got attention of famous news channels.mostly the American airlines authorities would refund your money & see to that no other passenger undergoes such things.
I wonder how many people this happened to. At least someone’s getting some media attention from this, way to go!
Thats why im flyin jetblue
Guys, AA is horrible. I read your story, and its a great one! No wonder the media is contacting you! Haha
Well, glad to see you went to the press with this. Show them that you can’t be pushed around!
I can’t think that they have told you after all that, that they restored the flight. Could you have switched to the flight and then got the money back from the other airline? It wouldn’t have happened in the first place. Hopefully, this will not happen again to anyone.
Cool man, it means they are atleast linstening your voice. So what you thinking to do now?
That’s good news dude, it seems that is the way of the world at the moment. In the UK this week, the third biggest holiday package airline went bust and left thousands of people stranded in their resorts. With the banks closing all over, the financial squeeze will be felt for a long time to come.
If they did, then its good….finally media is getting down to some useful business….
I think that was a unfortunate experience to happen to you! I can’t believe that they told you after all that, that they reinstated the flight. Could you have switched to the flight and then gotten your money back from the other airline? It shouldn’t have happened in the first place, but I’m glad that the press got a hold of you. It was an improper treatment on the part of the airliner committed against you. I guess its better to lodge a compensation case against AA.
Are consumers entitled to a compensation for such ill treatment by the airlines?
With Lufthansa i have only good experiences. I only fly by lufthansa or star alliance.
Everybody will have travel plans as such in their free time as it could be out of the countries even. Thanks for sharing the news in the CNN that has telecast previously.
i flyed maybe 20 time and my favorites are
air france and air madagascar. thats it is
what i can say.
