A Web-Based Photoshop Alternative – Splashup.com

by Joshua Dorkin on February 6, 2008

I just discovered a very cool site that promises to do to Adobe Photoshop what all of the web-based Google Desktop applications have done to Office. The website, Splashup, emulates Photoshop quite well, and is a must for any newbie blogger or web-designer who is strapped for cash and unwilling to buy PS.

I definitely recommend the site and hope that the developers continue to build up the features that are available.

I like photshop more, but this is a good second option.

Thanks for sharing, cheaper alternatives to expensive software products are always welcome.

I have been looking around for something that can do bits of pieces of what photoshop can. I can’t justify spending the money to buy it.

Being somewhat of an artist myself i just had to check this site. I must say I was impressed.

Thanks for the link to the image editor. Good job.

Yes, Paint.net is a good tool. I use it to make quick banners for some of my WP sites.

Wow! .... Nice one. There is another such site www.sumopaint.com

I have the link from a similar php script like this (Photoshop elements/tools online).. pm if u need`it. it is free to try.

This looks like just what I have been looking for.

Not on topic with web-based alternatives, but anyone looking for photoshop like capabilities, but smaller and lighter, should check out Paint.Net ... it's free, pretty high quality, and in between mspaint and photoshop in complexity.

Adobe may jump on it early at NAB 2007

Yeah, the splashup is a good place where you can edit your pin

Thanks for the link to the image editor. I tried gimp, but man, that was very confusing for me. I hope splash up is easier.

WOW! That is a wonderful link and tool. I am amazed to see that. They offer pretty cool techniques and ways to create graphics...!

At first I was going to dismiss this as a bad attempt to clone Photoshop as many others have tried to do, and failed might I add. However, after I really took a look into... well, I loved it. It has basically all the same features as Photoshop (minus some of the more advanced ones), which makes it very convient as I can just open another tab and edit my images. Bookmarking the tool for sure, thanks for spreading the word about it.

if you looking for free photoshop alternative then consider GimPhoto.

Actually GimPhoto is GIMP modification with new PS menu layout, packed with many great plugins, such as: separation, save for web, batch process, noise removal and photography filters, and also improved with new brushset, new gradientset, every aspect is tweaked to improve user usability.

This is amazing, very very nice tool. I like photshop more, but this is a good second option.

thanks...Hey nice little find Josh, I like it, ideal when your not at your home PC and need to do some photo editing for blogs or what not.

I use Photoshop to design all of my web graphics, but this looks like a great alternative.

Being somewhat of an artist myself i just had to check this site. I must say I was impressed. This online drawing app has all the basic function the mass user needs and is in fact easier to use and more useful than some commercial products I own. In fact i think I'm going to use it quite often myself. Thanks for the great post!

Stumbled across your blog and thought I'd share a recent development. Wired just wrote an article on the newest beta program from Photoshop, "Photoshop Express," that is free for the public to use: http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/2008/03/adobe-ph....
It's an online version of PS with simple features for anyone to access at no price. Looks promising!

Will this work with a slower internet connection? And also are there all the features as photoshop has?

This is amazing!! i should try it later on :)

I have seen it an it is really a nice one. But what about professional work?? It can't meet my need.

Oh my! This is cool. I should try this.

Thanks of sharing this, looks quite cool. goona try it out!

There are a lot of people in the market which do our work at a very low price. This is a very good practice of making others do your work at a very low price. This helps us a lot to concentrate on our important work.

I always used to need PhotoShop and the biggest problem has been, finding it and installing it. I see that Splushup is going to change this totally. Thanks for the info.

i must try this it is ver amazing

Oh, woah, this seems cool. I have Photoshop, but I'll have to check this out.

Great find!

thanks! Even though I already have photoshop I will experiment with this.

For the average developer PS is more program than they will ever need, and at a large expense. It is nice to know there is a decent alternative.

I hope that Splasup will really change the technique of working. It is really going to make the work very easy and fast as compared from Photoshop.

These looks like it could be a pretty useful tool. Like the idea of being able to edit online (especially when my own version of Photoshop crashes more than a bad F1 driver)

No way to compete with photoshop, is just the best tools for graphics edition

Thanks for sharing. It will be very useful tool for me. I am currently using Photoshop CS2 and Gimp 2 and having an online equivalent will mean I can design anywhere and not be restricted to the PC where the software is installed.

Wow this is fantastic! Definitely gonna try it out. I hope its not too slow.

From what I've been reading lately, this is the future of all softwar. Web-based rather than installed on you PC. This site seems like a great resource. Many times I've been using PCs that don't have image software installed. It's handy to be able to edit a picture on the fly.

This looks very promising! I bought PhotoShop Elements and only use 1% of what it can do. I think I bought way over my head.
