Google BitchSlap Update

October 27th, 2007 by Joshua Dorkin | Filed under Google.

Well it seems that Google isn’t finished handing out the pain. After another update in the past day or so, we got kicked to the ground and curbed! I had forgotten what the days of PR2 felt like, but after getting knocked from a PR5 to a PR3 in recent days, it seems like Google is out to strip me of my soul.

How about an announcement letting us all know what the hell is going on here?

    I feel the same. I had a successful PR 4 site and now it’s PR 2 :(
But… one of my blogs got PR 3 (formerly PR 0). It wasn’t that bad for me I supose.

everybody has really been trying to figure out what’s wrong with google coz they don’t seem to care explaining what they have just done and why. well, let’s just hope that things should be better soon.

I still don’t understand why Google made that. I have a directory that went from PR 4 to PR 2. I heard that Google doens’t want people to buy/sell links. They can’t fight against that, people will still buy links, for ranking or traffic.

Sorry to hear that. One of my website suffered the same thing as you and its ok to say that im quite pissed off. The SERP of one of my website also getting worst. :(

well i’ve been reading some articles around the internet and most of the people say that sites or blogs that buy links were penalized! don’t know if its your case but its what i read!
btw, my pagerank was kept intact at 4

Eh - just wondering that we are in the same theme

Same story with me to. Except myn went from a pR6 to a PR2. And then my blogspot blog, which is useless in traffic and only has a link with DMOZ, went to PR6. I think there are so many flaws in the system its not funny.

A lot of people are still begging to ask Google to give updates on what they are doing but still Google has a deaf ears on this issue. I’ll be very glad if ever Google would give us even the most minimal information of what is going on with them.

Everything Google does is very mysterious. I’m sorry to hear about your dastardly drop in PR. It is, after all, just a number, eh?

Google is never going to give out their secret sause recipe. Plus, they’re always going to be tweaking it as well to fight against gaming the system. You just have to figure out how to adjust each time and hope for the best.

lol, everytime i come here there always seems to be something new about how google has done something to your blog! I think everyone knows pagerank would be far more accurate if it was updated more regularly.

no idea mate, seems no one really knows wtf is going on anymore with PR or if it even is going to be important; keep hearing it’s going to be phased out. Keep putting out quality content and hope Google decides to stop trying to rape everyone

There going over the top with this so much. All strong sites are going down in PR and heaps of weak ones are going up in PR. That shows how bad the PR system is. They have been discussing it on DP forums non-stop, and after 3000 replies, the inaccuracy is staggering, in which strong sites have decreased.

Google’s attempt to make the web more inaccurate?

Google can be frustrating sometimes! I think it’s important though, to keep things in perspective, and not let something like pagerank influence what you do to your site too much. Focus on the things you can control, like quality content and a good readerbase!

I am so sorry to hear about that. I hope you will recover soon…

There was an interesting article in the Guardian about this yesterday, it looks like a lot of people are unhappy at Google’s timing of these updates just before Christmas.

Even I am much worried about this but fortunately till now I don’t face any problems and I also believe in my optimization campaigns. Hope Google will soon announce the reason behind dropping of PR.

  20. Adonis | 19/12/07

Yeah… perhaps Google is varying their algorithm again, their changing again their methods on how they will put weight about links and popularity of a website. Obviously, Google doesn’t want to share their point on whats the reason behind their updates… its seems Google dancing… newly trends are being implemented.

I came across your blog looking for ecommerce tips and have found your tips to be very helpful…
I too have been struggling with my site and googles new page rank system. Any idea when the next page rank update might hit??

  22. Rick Marnon, Howell | 30/12/07

Sorry to hear about your issues with google. They are finally moving me up the ranks and I am now on page 3. In about another week or so I should be on page 1. My active rain blog is on page 2 and will be on page 1 as well.

its called google dance for PR, I will suggest You to every webmasters need to check google webmaster guidelines and after that start offpage Optimation work for your site.

some new users are going to use black hat techniques for fast techniques and than issue will come of page rank and sandbox.

always use quality content and get the quality links from link building, social bookmarking and article directories so you will get sure rankings in google.

    Thanks
