Cyber-News: May 16, 2007
May 16th, 2007 by Joshua Dorkin | Filed under Blogging, News. Here are some important news stories from the past day that are worth a look:
- Gonzales proposes new crime: ‘Attempted’ copyright infringement (CNet News.com)
This could affect every blogger and person with a website. An important read. - Russia accused of unleashing cyberwar to disable Estonia (The Guardian UK)
Looks like we’re possibly seeing the first state sponsored cyber-war between nations. This is potentially a very scary situation! - Details emerge on IRS plans to tax eBay auctions (ars technica)
The big-dogs of Ebay may soon hate the IRS more than the rest of us!

Yea, that attempted copyright infringement thing was just too funny — or frightening, I haven’t yet decided.
I’m more scared than anything else. While I’m a strong proponent of copyright protection, this seems like another justification for the government to invade our lives and take our freedoms. Every step this guy has taken has been to take away the freedoms that Americans were granted by the original framers of our constitution.
He’s proposing prison for ATTEMPTED copyright theft. Does anyone think that they are going to far with this besides me?
He’s proposing wiretaps for investigating copyright infringement (warrant-less, no doubt).
Almost every proposal brings us closer to what Putin is creating in Russia . . . a police state wrapped in fear. At some point, even the innocent will be caught up in this.
Gonzales needs to go and it needs to happen NOW!
I wonder if they ever started Taxing sellers on Ebay yet. I remember the story when it came out,but I did not hear any follow up information. By the way you have a cool blog with some interesting posts.
that is good news but still little bit old one
